How You Can Help Serenia Life Financial Support Ukrainian Refugees

The Season of Spending has just come and gone, and for many of us, this means higher credit card bills and possibly new debt. If you're feeling the post-holiday blues when it comes to your finances, you may be one of the many Canadians whose New Year's resolution is to pay down their debt.
Every day, we see more heartbreaking news and images coming out of the war in Ukraine. Many Canadians are wondering how they can help those suffering, both in Europe and closer to home as more refugees arrive in Canada.
With millions of Ukrainians fleeing their homes since the war broke out in late February, an estimated 40,000 are expected to arrive in Ontario alone over the coming weeks and months. Families, young professionals, grandparents, babies – all of them will need our help settling into their new lives.
Serenia Life Financial wants to do just that. Which is why we’ve joined forces with the Region of Waterloo’s Immigration Partnership to support newcomers, ensuring they have access to essentials like food, clothing, shelter, and mental health resources.
Over the next several weeks, we will be matching donations to the Immigration Partnership Fund for Immigrant and Refugee Initiatives through Serenia Life Financial’s Givesome page – up to $15,000, for a total of $30,000 towards this worthy cause.
Why are we fundraising for Ukraine?
The war in Ukraine has sent shockwaves through the world, and we’re feeling them right here in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region.
A number of Ukrainian families have already started settling in the area, and more will arrive in the near future. As an active part of this community, the team at Serenia Life Financial wants to make sure anyone coming to the region feels welcome and supported.
Not only that, but two of our core values are giving back to the community and leading by example – which is why we hope that this fundraising initiative will encourage those in this region and across Canada to act now and donate. People fleeing the Ukraine crisis need kindness and compassion from local residents, and we encourage everyone to do what they can, whether that’s through financial support or helping out a neighbour in need.
Why did we partner with the Region of Waterloo’s Immigration Partnership?
The Immigration Partnership represents a collaboration between community services, businesses, municipal organizations, post-secondary institutions, and local residents working together to make sure newcomers feel welcome in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region.
As more people flee the war in Ukraine and come to this community, the group will use monetary donations to ensure all refugees have access to the support they need.
How can you help?
Take a moment to donate through Serenia Life Financial’s Givesome page. Funds will be matched up to $15,000 and directed to the Immigration Partnership Fund for Immigrant and Refugee Initiatives.
While the Immigration Partnership is working hard to connect with all refugees as they arrive in the area, you can also reach out to help new arrivals – whether that’s to connect them to YMCA Immigrant Services or the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre, to offer your friendship and support during this difficult time, or to drop off baked goods to welcome a new neighbour.
Through this fundraising initiative, we’ll be collecting and matching donations until May 16th. Donate now and double your impact, to help support Ukrainians who have escaped war and are settling into your community.
