How to set my child up
Confirm membership.
This benefit is available if one parent** is a member*** of Serenia Life at the time of their death, or if a child is a member at the time of orphanhood****.

If your child isn’t a member, consider protecting them in another way: the right life insurance policy can give them access to an ’emergency fund’ in future.
Submit an application.
Once you’ve made sure your child meets the eligibility requirements, simply print, complete, and mail the application form to Serenia Life.

The Bereaved Child Benefit offers $500 in monthly support to juvenile members whose parents have died while the member is under the age of 19.
This benefit provides financial support to children under the age of 19 who have experienced the loss of their parents.
$500/month
This is a one-time benefit that offers monthly support until an eligible child reaches age 19. However, if the child reaches 19 years of age and is enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited secondary school or post-secondary institution, they will receive support up to the age of 23.
Benefits will cease in the event a child:
- is no longer a member of Serenia Life Financial
- is legally adopted by a new parent
- stops attending school for any reason other than being totally and continuously disabled
- gets married
- turns 19 years of age (with the exception noted below*****)
The requirements for this benefit include:
- child is orphaned by the death of their last surviving parent**
- child is less than 19 years of age
- child is a full member of Serenia Life Financial at the time of orphanhood**** OR one parent was a member of Serenia Life Financial at their time of death. More info here

1. A natural (biological) parent of a minor member who has custody of the minor member
2. An adoptive parent of a minor member who has custody of the minor member
3. An individual who has established parentage of the minor member by a Court Order and has custody of the minor member
Serenia Life Financial has the sole right to define and determine parent status and any interpretation of this definition made by Serenia Life Financial is final.
***If you: (1) own a Serenia Life Financial annuity product, (2) are insured under one of Serenia Life Financial’s products, and/or (3) became a policyowner after February 23, 2021, you are indeed a member.
****If at the time of orphanhood, the applicant is less than 60 days of age and is not a member of Serenia Life Financial, the applicant is eligible for the Bereaved Child Benefit if they become a member before their first birthday.
*****If an applicant reaches 19 years of age and is enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited secondary school or post-secondary institution on that date; and none of the events resulting in benefit cessation have occurred, the applicant may apply for a continuation of the Bereaved Child Benefit and, if eligible (as determined by Serenia Life Financial), the monthly benefit will continue to be paid until the earlier of: (i) the applicant’s 23rd birthday; or (ii) the applicant receiving a diploma or degree from a post-secondary institution; or (iii) any of the events resulting in benefit cessation occurs; or (iv) the applicant ceases to be enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited secondary school or post-secondary institution.
